Public and private lands may form the APAs. The APAs have as priority: the protection of biological diversity, discipline the process of occupation and assure the sustainability of the use of natural resources.
The Atlantic Forest represents one of the planet's biggest biodiversity and is considered the second most threatened tropical forest within 15 regions denominated " hot spots" (high biodiversity area, elevated endemism rates and big antropica pressure).
